This is one of those urban legends that happens to be true.
A guy gets a 150 four and a half foot weather balloons, fills them up with helium, straps them to a lawn chair and off he goes. He also took a B.B. gun with him.
Kent Couch calls it a boyhood dream. He always wanted to go to Idaho. He was able to get up to a cruising altittude of 15,000 feet.
The flight lasted over nine hours. When he had enough, he simply shot out the balloons one by one, until he drifted to earth.
Here’s the video:
“You know it’s a dream to be able to get this far,” Couch said. “I don’t know really know why I wanted to come to Idaho. I just wanted to get out of the state and go somewhere.”
Still flying high,
