The Incredible Blue Lobster

I have seen a blue lobster only once in my life. This was a number of years ago, at the Mystic Marine Life Aquarium.

I went back to the Aquarium recently and was shocked to discover Mystic Marine Life Aquarium has several blue lobsters. Some were of average size. One was at least 6-7 pounds.

Bluie lobsters are extremely rare. I am happy to share with you my most recent photgraph of a genuine blue lobster…

blue Lobster

One of the people we were with wanted to know how they would taste…

I hope we never find out the answer to that question. Blue lobsters are truly some of the most unusual of all marine life.

According to Wikipedia:

“Around one in two million lobsters is blue. A research study conducted by Professor Ronald Christensen at the University of Connecticut discovered that a genetic defect causes a blue lobster to produce an excessive amount of protein. The protein, and a red caratenoid molecule known as astaxanthin, combine to form a blue complex known as crustacyanin, giving the lobster its blue color [2].”

 So now you know…
